The UF Water Institute coordinated Carbonate Critical Zone Research Coordination Network (CCZ-RCN) is funded by the National Science Foundation to further transdisciplinary and collaborative research into landscapes underlain by carbonate or mixed carbonate-silicate mineralogies.
In 2020 the CCZ-RCN convened its first workshop, where 70 participants reached consensus on important research questions that define unknowns about the carbonate critical zone. The questions align with five key research areas that provide directions for future critical zone studies and that will help to fill large gaps in our knowledge of Earth’s surface and humans’ interactions with it.
Read the recently published EOS article “A New Focus on the Neglected Carbonate Critical Zone” to learn more about these research questions and the directions that the CCZ-RCN is headed.
