Water Institute awarded TESI’s Outstanding Partnership Award

During a ceremony held at the Florida Museum of Natural Resources on March 25, 2023, the UF Water Institute was awarded the Outstanding Partnership Award from the UF’s Thompson Earth Systems Institute (TESI).

TESI’s mission is to advance communication and education about Earth systems science in a way that inspires Floridians to be effective stewards of our planet. Over the past few years, the Water Institute has collaborated with TESI to help share complex water issues with diverse audiences. These collaborations included in 2020, the Water Resources Journalism Intensive (WRJI), a crash course on how to cover a scientific conference for journalism students pursuing careers in science writing and communication; in 2022, TESI Environmental Leaders Fellows were tasked with gathering questions for the plenary panel on climate change resilience of the 8th Water Institute Biannual Symposium; and in 2023 the development of Arctic Exposed, a story map about Water Institute Graduate Fellows conducting work in Greenland.

The UF Water Institute truly values effective storytelling,” said Becca Burton, TESI communications manager. “These collaborations are only the beginning. We look forward to developing more innovative ways to communicate the UF Water Institute’s research to wider audiences.”
