2025 Travel Awards

Travel Awards provide financial support to UF undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs to present their water-related research at a national or international conference. The research focus must be on terrestrial water systems (i.e. freshwater, groundwater) and their interactions with human, coastal, or atmospheric systems.

Award Details

University of Florida undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs may apply to receive up to $1,000 for travel to present their water-related research at a national or international conference. Your research focus must be on terrestrial water systems (i.e. freshwater, groundwater) and their interactions with human, coastal, or atmospheric systems. The award will be disbursed as a reimbursement upon submission of receipts following UF travel directives.

Airfare and registration may be paid in advance under certain circumstances.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a UF undergraduate, graduate student, or postdoc at least one full semester after return from the conference (preference is given to students)
  • Faculty advisor must be a Water Institute Affiliate Faculty member
  • Have not received a Water Institute Travel Award in the last 18 months
  • Research must focus on terrestrial water systems (i.e. freshwater, groundwater) and their interactions with human, coastal, or atmospheric systems
  • Present at a national or international conference  
  • Be the presenting author
  • Abstract must have been submitted (proof of abstract acceptance to present must be submitted before receiving reimbursement)
  • Provide clear budget justification (see example)

Application Materials

Requirements

  • Acknowledgement of Water Institute support on poster/presentation
  • Present research at Water Institute event (Spring 2025 event will be held on April 3rd
  • Travel expense report must be submitted within two weeks of return

Selection Criteria

  • Research focus on terrestrial water systems (e.g., freshwater, groundwater) and their interactions with human, coastal, or atmospheric systems.
  • The research’s potential impact on the field.
  • The conference must be national or international and increase UF water research visibility.
  • Clear and reasonable justification for expected expenses and any additional funds used.
  • Judges will consider diversity in colleges, disciplines, and events.
  • Priority will be given to students.
