Register now for the next installment of the BRIDGES Webinar Series! This month’s webinar features Dr. Stephanie Romañach, a Research Ecologist from the United States Geological Survey. Dr. Romañach’s work includes using a combination of field observations and predictive ecological models to explore the impacts of climate change and ecosystem restoration on wildlife and will be explored in her presentation titled, “Modeling and Decision Support for Everglades Restoration Planning”.

Show your interest for the Water Institute Spring Student Showcase, a full-day event with multiple components. Learn about data management with a presentation by Water Institute Nicolas Fernandez paired with an interactive workshop in collaboration with CUASHI. Develop new connections at the networking lunch and hear what new discoveries are being made in the water science community with presentations from students. The event will end with a Distinguished Scholar Seminar featuring Water Institute Faculty Fellow Dr. Amanda Subalusky from the Department of Biology.

Learn about the influence of animal movement and behavior on food web structure and ecosystem function with Dr. Amanda Subalusky’s Distinguished Scholar Seminar, “Biological Connectivity as a Significant Nexus: How Animals Connect Freshwater and Terrestrial Ecosystems”. An assistant professor in the Department of Biology, Dr. Subalusky’s research has an interdisciplinary focus encompassing a population and community level impact. This is the concluding event to the Water Institute Spring Student Showcase and has time for questions and networking afterwards.

Carter Conference and Student Luncheon Session & Faculty Meet-and-Connect Opportunities

Save the date for the Center for African Studies’ annual Carter Conference, “African Waters: Ecologies and Identities in Africa’s Lakes, Rivers, and Oceans,” on April 2 and 3! This interdisciplinary conference will explore the importance and evolving meanings of water across the African continent.
In collaboration, the UF Water Institute will host a student lunchtime session and faculty meet‑and‑connect opportunities on April 1 for the community to engage with four visiting scholars from Africa. Mark your calendar and stay tuned for upcoming information.
