The Water Institute Travel Awards support students in sharing their research with broader scientific and professional communities. By enabling participation in national and international conferences, the program helps expand students’ networks, enhance professional development, and increase the visibility of University of Florida water research.

University of Florida undergraduate and graduate students may apply for up to $1,000 in travel support to present water-related research at national or international conferences. Eligible research must focus on terrestrial water systems (e.g., freshwater, groundwater) and their interactions with human, coastal, or atmospheric systems. Awards are provided as reimbursements, in accordance with University of Florida travel policies, upon submission of receipts.

• Be a UF undergraduate or graduate student at least one full semester after return from the conference
• Faculty advisor must be a Water Institute Affiliate Faculty member
• Have not received a Water Institute Travel Award in the last 18 months
• Research must focus on terrestrial water systems (i.e. freshwater, groundwater) and their interactions with human, coastal, or atmospheric systems
• Present at a national or international conference  
• Be the presenting author
• Abstract must have been submitted (proof of abstract acceptance is not required to apply for award, but must be submitted before receiving reimbursement)
• Provide clear budget justification (see example)

• Completed application form (see preview questions)
• Proof of abstract submission, including a copy of the abstract
• Estimated travel budget (see budget template and example)

• Acknowledgement of Water Institute support on poster/presentation
• Present research at Water Institute event  
• Travel expense report must be submitted within two weeks of return

• Alignment with a research focus on terrestrial water systems (e.g., freshwater, groundwater) and their interactions with human, coastal, or atmospheric systems
• Potential impact of the research on the field
• Relevance of the conference, including its national or international scope and contribution to increasing visibility of University of Florida water research
• Clear and reasonable justification of travel expenses and any additional funding sources
• Judges will also consider a balanced representation across colleges, disciplines, and types of events
