Successful Strategic Planning with Impact by Design

The Water Institute collaborated with Impact by Design, a nonprofit organization that helps organizations develop capabilities to maximize its impact, to devise the Water Institute’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan. Focusing on the institute’s future direction, the Water Institute community and stakeholders were engaged through surveys, listening sessions, and an in-person workshop. The Water Institute extends its gratitude to all who participated in these events for their valuable input.

Two surveys were carried out to assess views regarding the Water Institute, identify significant water-related issues and research priorities in Florida, and determine the needs and preferences of the community. One survey focused on community members outside of the University of Florida, including representatives from government agencies, industry groups, utilities, water management districts, NGOs, and other organizations. The survey findings were subsequently reviewed and explored during a virtual listening session facilitated by Impact by Design. The second survey focused on the University of Florida’s faculty, students, administration, and alumni. Information from the survey findings and virtual listening session was then discussed during the in-person workshop to define success and potential strategies. Afterwards, the Water Institute staff worked with Impact by Design to synthesize insights and prepare the strategic plan.

The Water Institute thanks Impact by Design for their skilled work in guiding the strategic plan development process. The final strategic plan report is being developed and is expected to be presented to the Faculty Advisory Committee for adoption in early Fall 2025.
