Water Institute Dissertation Award Recipient Announced

The Water Institute is pleased to announce Dr. Bailey Magers as the recipient of the 2025 Water Institute Dissertation Award for the Natural Science and Engineering category. This award recognizes the innovation, merit, and impact of his research in the field of water science. Dr. Magers’ dissertation will also be nominated for the Universities Council on Water Resources (UCOWR) Ph.D. Dissertation Award.

Dr. Bailey Magers is recognized for his dissertation, Using Earth Observations to Understand Environmental Indicators of Disease, Develop Predictive Intelligence, and Ensure Human Health Security. With a focus on waterborne pathogens, in particular cholera and vibriosis, Dr. Magers’ work integrates public health, water science, and policy. By applying machine learning to link Earth observation data with environmental and epidemiological models, he has developed predictive intelligence frameworks that anticipate climate-sensitive disease outbreaks before they occur. His work proposes a centralized early warning system to inform water management decisions and public health interventions. Dr. Magers earned his Ph.D. from ESSIE under the mentorship of Dr. Antarpreet Jutla.

We cordially invite you to celebrate Dr. Magers and his achievement at the Water Institute Awards Ceremony on October 16, 4:30 pm at the Keene Faculty Center in Dauer Hall.
