Bridging Science and Storytelling: Welcome Kamila to the Water Institute

We are excited to welcome Kamila Koralasbayev as the Water Institute Communications Intern! This newly created position at the Water Institute is part of a collaborative initiative with the University of Florida Thompson Earth Systems Institute (TESI) through their Environmental Communicators program. Kamila, as a participant of this program, will gain hands-on experience in science communication by creating blog and newsletter articles, graphics, and social media posts. Working closely with TESI and the Water Institute, Kamila will develop engaging content focused on Florida’s terrestrial water systems. She will help amplify the innovative water research taking place at the University of Florida and bring attention to the work shaping the future of Florida’s water resources.

Kamila is a Master’s student in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communication. She has worked on projects with Florida Sea Grant, UF Center for Public Issues Education, and TESI Florida Museum in providing extension activities, digital science communication, and community outreach efforts. She is passionate about furthering the reach of current water-related natural resource development. In particular, she strives to combine her background in marine sciences with science communication to increase public water literacy, content knowledge, and connection to natural resources.

The Water Institute is looking forward to working with Kamila throughout the semester and sharing the impactful stories of the University of Florida’s water research with broader audiences.
