Congratulations to the 2025 Water Institute Faculty Fellows
Congratulations to Drs. Joseph Bisesi and Amanda Subalusky on being named the 2025 University of Florida Water Institute Faculty Fellows! Dr. Bisesi was awarded the honor of a Distinguished Faculty Fellow, and Dr. Subalusky receives the distinction of an Early Career Faculty Fellow. This prestigious award recognizes their outstanding contributions to interdisciplinary water-related research, education, and/or extension programs that align with the Water Institute’s mission.
Dr. Joseph Bisesi, an Associate Professor of the Department of Environmental and Global Health at the College of Public Health and Health Professions, focuses his research on the effect of chemicals in water. One research area involves exposure studies with fish and invertebrates to learn if chemicals added to aquatic systems cause significant risk to the native organisms. Additionally, he examines the fate and bioaccumulation of contaminants in aquatic environments through water and wastewater surveillance. Dr. Bisesi has also advanced water educational opportunities for students by developing two new courses about environmental toxicology and water.
Dr. Amanda Subalusky, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, investigates the influence of animals on aquatic ecosystem structure and function. Her international research spans across three continents – Africa, North America, and South America- and includes active, field-based research projects centered on the ecology of surface waters. Dr. Subalusky is actively engaged in teaching courses at both undergraduate and graduate level, helping students learn about water, ecology, and the interactions between them.
We are excited to celebrate and recognize Drs. Bisesi and Subalusky for their excellence at the upcoming Water Institute Awards Ceremony. Stay tuned for seminar announcements featuring our new Faculty Fellows and the amazing work that they do.
