Welcome the Water Institute 2024-2025 Ambassadors

The Water Institute is pleased to announce Alexis Jackson and Gabrielle Quadrado as Water Institute Ambassadors for the 2024-2025 term. In this role, they will promote student participation in Water Institute programs, support the graduate student community, and provide networking and leadership opportunities. They will also be key in organizing student-centric events such as the Lunch by the Water seminar series, guest speaker sessions, and social gatherings.

Alexis Jackson (AJ) is a Ph.D. student in the Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure & Environment, the H.T. Odum Center for Wetlands, and the Watershed Ecology Lab at UF. She wants to pursue a career that allows her to facilitate cross-cultural understanding of environmental issues and promote interdisciplinary research and science communication. AJ is an NSF GRFP Fellow and has experience in science communication and public outreach. Her research focuses on investigating the influence of hydrology and vegetation on wetland carbon storage using fieldwork, machine learning, and modeling techniques.

Gabrielle Quadrado is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Geography and previously served as the 2023-2024 Water Institute Ambassador. She played a pivotal role in establishing the successful Lunch by the Water seminar series and facilitated other student-oriented events. Gabi aspires to pursue an academic career, fostering efficient science communication, collaborative interdisciplinary research, and collegial networking. Her research aims to understand how waves, tides, and storm surges combine to cause extreme total water level events along the densely populated U.S. Atlantic coastline.
