Empowering Students Through New Symposium Career Events

The Water Institute Biennial Symposium features two new student-focused professional development events: the Career Fair and Networking Reception and the Water Science Career Panel. These events provide registered students opportunities to connect with professionals, learn about careers across the water sector, and prepare for future pathways in water science. Even if not selected during registration, all registered students are encouraged to attend.

The Career Fair and Networking Reception (February 24) will host representatives from 30 organizations including federal, state, and local agencies, nonprofits, academic programs, and industry. Students can speak directly with organizations to gain insight into the skills, experiences, and competencies most valued in their sector. The Career Fair also serves as a space to connect with our generous sponsors, who are committed to supporting student development and advancing water science. The Career Connection Center will also be on-site to provide resume feedback, networking guidance, and career preparation tips.

The Water Science Career Panel (February 25) brings together a diverse group of professionals—from academia, public service, conservation, consulting, and engineering—each offering unique perspectives on careers in water science. Led by Water Institute Student Ambassadors Lexi Bolger and Alexis Jackson, the session is designed to help students gain insight into the wide range of career pathways across the water science field, learn about emerging trends and challenges shaping the industry, and connect with professionals, peers, and potential mentors who are dedicated to advancing water-related work.

The Water Institute looks forward to the symposium and the enlightening and inspiring conversations to occur.
