Celebrating a Year of Excellence From Water Institute Ambassadors

The University of Florida Water Institute celebrates a year of innovation, leadership, and community engagement by our 2025 Ambassadors Alexis Jackson (AJ) from the Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure and Environment and Lexi Bolger from the School of Natural Resources and Environment. Through their creativity, dedication, and passion for science communication, they have left a lasting mark on the Institute and the broader UF water science community through student recognition, events, and assistance to the Water Institute.

Throughout their tenure, AJ and Lexi demonstrated exceptional leadership in elevating student voices and strengthening community connections. They were instrumental in launching the Hydro Highlights, a monthly spotlight series elevating the voices of student researchers. Through surveys and interviews, they crafted compelling stories highlighting the diverse research and journeys within the water science graduate community. Using digital storytelling and engaging visuals, AJ and Lexi strengthened connections across the academic community while expanding the reach of student work.

In addition, AJ and Lexi played a central role in planning and executing the Water Institute’s Student Showcase. This dynamic, full-day event held each semester provided a platform for Water Institute travel and research awards to present their work, engage with peers and faculty, and build professional skills through workshops and presentations. The vibrant space for collaboration and inspiration would not have been possible without their leadership and creativity.

Together, AJ and Lexi exemplified the mission of the Water Institute by bridging research, communication, and community. Their efforts have helped amplify student voices, foster meaningful connections, and enhance opportunities for professional growth.

We extend our sincere gratitude to AJ and Lexi for their outstanding service as Water Institute Ambassadors. Their legacy will continue to shape and inspire the community for years to come, and we wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.
