Research activities include development of irrigation scheduling tools, computerized decision support systems, and irrigation system automation. Funded research includes improved grower irrigation scheduling through the use of weather data from the Florida Automated Weather Network. Current research projects includes modeling of nutrient (primarily N and P) availability, movement, and crop uptake. Interdisiplinary model development projects includes the BMP modelling project. Field research includes increased nutrient uptake efficiency and improved water quality using controlled and slow release fertilizers. Additionally, field quantification of soil water sensor calibration curves under Florida soil conditions and sensor utilization with automated control systems are being undertaken.
