My research experience focuses on the interface between biodiversity conservation and economic development in the Amazon region, with particular interest in community-based conservation and natural resource management. Since 1990 I have directed a major collaborative research program in western Brazil, with funding from USAID, the Hewlett Foundation, and the Moore Foundation, among others. She has worked on issues related to gender and development for over twenty years. Dr. Schmink has had major grants from the Mellon Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Ford Foundation, Hewlett Foundation, and Moore Foundation to support collaborative research and training programs at UF.
