My research includes foci on the religious/spiritual and ethical dimensions of environmental conservation and environmental movements. I have written widely on enviornmentalism in general and radical environmentalism in particular, including the watershed movements which precipitated much such environmentalism in the Western United States, and elsewhere. I am currently involved in (as its founding President and editor of its new, scholarly journal) in the International Society for the Study of Religion, Nature, and Culture, which critically examines the religion/culture/nature nexus, including that related to wetlands, watersheds, and marine ecosystems. I am a participating faculty member in the wetlands IGERT (Mark Brown, PI) and also write on the spiriutal and ethical connections surfers have with the Ocean and how this can produce environmental action (see my personal website for publications along these lines).
