Director of the Center for Environmental Policy, a center dedicated to emphasizing scientific, technologic, economic, legal, political, and social dimensions of environmental policy and management. My research has centered on several areas that can be broadly described as natural resource management, including systems ecology, ecological engineering, ecological economics, environmental planning, environmental policy, and wetlands ecology. My current research includes projects to develop ecological indicators of wetland ecosystem health, development of indices of success for restored wetlands, restoration of drastically altered landscapes, and quantitative evaluation of natural capital and environmental services.Currently I am the PI on an NSF- IGERT program in Adaptive Management that focuses on research and training experiences that integrate the physical, biological and social sciences to address the chosen research theme, Wise Use of Water, Wetlands, and Watersheds. The intellectual merit and goal of this IGERT program is to provide scientists with greater understanding of the complex issues of coupled human and natural systems and a framework for interfacing policy and science to manage them.
