The McLamore biosensor group focuses on sensors for measuring small molecules, cells, and whole organisms by engineering devices that combine two dimensional nanomaterials (graphene, MoS2), nanometals (Pt, Pd, Au), and biorecognition agents (e.g., aptamers, lectins, oxidase). Our research spans two areas: i) target binding and biotransduction at the bio-nano interface, and ii) application of minimally-invasive point of use biosensors in agricultural, environmental, and medical research, with a specific focus on disaster relief and developing regions. Our work related to water quality focuses on development and application of low cost sensors for field applications. We are currently working on devices for measuring pathogenic bacteria (E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella, Campylobacter) and heavy metals (mercury and methylmercury), and pesticides/insecticides.
