I conduct research on how people make decisions and build consensus around agricultural and natural resource issues with an emphasis on those related to water quality and conservation. My specific research areas of interest include 1) public opinion analysis of agricultural and natural resource issues, 2) the impact individual and group level cognition has on the decision making and consensus building process, 3) the role of opinion leaders in driving community decision making, and 4) how educational initiatives can be targeted to have maximum effect in assisting in informed decision making.
I serve on the water extension initiative leadership team and work closely with the water schools and the Florida water stewards program. I also recently created the Policy Extension Program, an online extension program focused on educating about water-focused policy. Grants I am involved in include analyzing public perceptions of agricultural water use, examining high water users perceptions of water issues, encouraging nursery growers to adopt water conservation technologies, and determining how to reduce homeowners' use of water in the landscape.
