My research interests are in four major areas:
1. Water Quality
2. Soil Sustainability
3. Sustainable Agriculture
4. Best Management Practice (BMP).
Some of my ongoing research involves dealing with developing new BMPs which will improve the quality of drainage water in agricultural areas. Understanding the role of major nutrients like phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N) and carbon (C) in aquatic systems are key to addressing critical environmental problems.
Productive soil is not an unlimited resource; therefore topics related to soil sustainability are also important to me. Ongoing research includes trying to find ways of utilizing soil amendments, bio-solids, and biochar to improve soil productivity and longetivity.
The future of farming depends on sustainable agriculture. At the Everglades Research and Education Center we collaborate with agronomist and plant pathologists to try and find ways of improving crop yields and reducing the dependency on inorganic fertilizers.
Keywords: phosphorus biogeochemistry; hydrology; water resources; wetlands; drainage canals; allelopathy; groundwater; fate and transport; internal loading; systems approach
