My research focuses on integrating remotely sensed data into natural resources applications and developing spatial data models for such applications. My most recent work is in utilizing airborne and ground based hyperspectral imagery in estimating chlorophyll a, classify aquatic submerged vegetation, and study plant stress due to bacterial diseases. I also developed a low-cost multi-purpose hyperspectral and multispectral mobile mapping sensor for vegetation studies. I transfer the knowledge gained through my research to undergraduate and graduate students through multiple courses I am teaching in the image processing and GIS analysis fields.
