Water research interests include nutrients and nutrient impacts such as eutrophication in both fresh and salt waters. Main focus of previous research has been understanding the role of organic carbon in wetland systems, specifically, the charaterization and identification of source, mobility, and fate (biotic and abiotic) of dissolved and particulate organic matter in aquatic systems. Other research interests include, sedimant and soil biogeochemistry, terrestrial influences on near shore habitats (salt marshes and seagrass habitats), mangrove and seagrass impacts and mitigation in Florida, and other biogeochemical intrestes in both freah and saline waters.Other ongoing work includes sedimant biogeochemistry and mapping of Lake Okeechobee, sea level rise and coastal forest retreat in the Georgia bight, organic matter development in spoil soils of the Indian River Lagoon, and fire effects on invasive plant dispersal and nutrient abatement in the Everglades.
